2011 Vintage Report
There have been many rumours of the 2011 vintage being severely affected by weather conditions and the wine quality questionable as a result.
Although there is no denying that some fruit was affected by disease, the quality of a majority of fruit picked this year was absolutely stunning due to the lengthened growing season as a result of the cooler weather.
White fruit retained it’s acid well and developed white wines with very good flavours at much lower sugar levels than previously seen.
Shiraz ripened very slowly and is showing some good upfront fruit and structure, with alcohol levels lower than usual. Colour levels are slightly less intense but fruit intensity is very good.
Our Cabernet Sauvignon was only minimally affected by the growing conditions due to its resilient nature and will produce some very varietal wines with great length and structure – probably the standout variety from the vintage.
Grenache was picked very late in the season and the cooler conditions have given some real spice and white pepper along with very juicy red fruit. The season produced a lighter style Grenache but extremely elegant and with very good fruit weight.
